Soil consists of three types of soil: clay soil, clay soil, and sandy soil, where their proportion varies from one soil to another, which gives the soil its strength.

Increasing one of these components from the natural ratios leads to disadvantages in the soil and its effects are reflected on the plant. For example, an increase in the proportion of clay in the soil leads to an increase in the soil’s ability to hold water negatively, which leads to suffocation of the roots (due to poor drainage and ventilation) and the spread of fungal diseases.

On the contrary, an increase in the proportion of sand in the soil leads to a significant reduction in the soil’s water retention, which increases the waste of water and the speed of its loss from the soil before the plant takes its need from it, and in both cases clear negative effects appear in the growth of the plant, its productivity and its exposure to many diseases and physiological disorders It may even lead to limiting the spread of some plants sensitive to excess or lack of water in the soil, and to improve the texture of these soils, adding organic fertilizers is one of the good solutions to these problems. And make it more capable of retaining water. In addition, these fertilizers increase the fertility of the soil, including the nutrients that are necessary for plant growth.

The high percentage of calcium in the soil is also one of the most important problems that the Syrian soil suffers from, which hinders the growth of many crops, vegetables and fruit trees, determines their areas of spread and reduces their productivity and tolerance to external conditions, as (lime) inhibits the absorption of many nutrients that plants need for growth and fruition.
